MOMA: Experiencing Museum of Modern Art

MOMA | cHowDivine.com

Living in New York City, we are spoiled. Great restaurants, great theatre, great sports (or so says my husband). But perhaps most telling of all may be the riches of New York City’s art museums, which for many reflect the city’s history and temperament: the Metropolitan as august and grand, the Whitney as modern and rebellious, the Natural History as nerdy and different (remember Holden Caulfield?). But in its way, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) stands out on its own. You probably know all the facts: home of the largest collection of artwork created between 1880 and the present; home to grand masterpieces that even my husband knows, like Monet’s Water Lilies,or Van Gogh’s Starry Night(housed in MOMA’s permanent exhibits on floors 4 and 5); home to what most consider the finest collection of film, photography, and architecture in the world.

Cheap Eats in NYC

Big Gay Ice Cream

I’ve been neglecting one of my favorite neighborhoods as of late. When I was in my early twenties, my job required me to be in New York City up to 3 weeks out of the month. And in my down time, I spent all of my time downtown – much of it in the East Village and Soho. Now that I actually live in the City – not in downtown obviously – I have a difficult time venturing out of my neighborhood.

Shake Shack – My Burger Indulgence

If you are going to be in the city for a visit, you should really stop by the Shake Shack. There are other burger places in NYC – among them Five Guys Burgers & Fries, 5 Napkin Burger, and the Burger Joint. But in my opinion, the Shake Shack burger comes out on top.

Look. I’m not much of a burger fan. The last time I had the ubiquitous Big Mac was in the 7th grade. So, unless it’s a great burger, I’ll probably – no, surely – pass. Needless to say, I look forward to my occasional burgers at the Shake Shack.

Seoul Garden: A Pleasant Surprise

My cold has gotten a lot better, almost gone actually. But it was a nasty one. So I didn’t want to take any chances. What better way to oust it from my system than nourishing my body with a delicious hearty traditional Korean soup? As such, my husband and I went on a quest to find samgyetang (soup with whole young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, and jujubes) in Koreatown (NYC).

Hangawi – Korean Vegan Oasis in Manhattan?

I haven’t had a haircut in ages. I really don’t enjoy the experience. I’m a bit fidgety by nature; and having to sit still for an hour while someone pores over my hair isn’t my idea of fun. That’s why I always have to give myself an incentive. Today the incentive was Hangawi. Hangawi is a Korean vegan restaurant located on the same street as my hair guy. I’ve always wanted to try it. I decided it would be my reward – kind of like a lollipop after a dental appointment.

I’m not a vegan. But I eat very little meat – once every few weeks at most; and I eat even less dairy – dab or two of butter on pancakes or in baked goods once in a blue moon. My refrain from meat is completely voluntary, but dairy… ahhhh – that’s another story. I am SO lactose-intolerant – except for the occasional dab of butter. I am also SO in love with dairy. I.MISS.CHEESE. Stinkier the cheese, the better. Oops, I digress. So I’m always on a lookout for a great vegan restaurant, where I can forget about my dairy deprivation. Hangawi met the bill on paper. I was excited.
